State police are investigating a deputy-involved shooting

EAST FELICIANA – A deputy-involved shooting in East Feliciana Parish on Mother’s Day is under investigation.

It happened around 7:40 p.m. in the 11000 block of Oakwood Ln., north of Clinton in East Feliciana Parish.

East Feliciana deputies responded to the same address about two weekends ago after Zachary Williams’ wife called and said Williams was allegedly acting irrationally. Officers attempted to get Williams to check himself into a hospital, but he allegedly refused. The parish coroner then responded to the home and signed an OPC (protective custody order) allowing officers to transport him to a hospital. This corresponds to the duties of a forensic pathologist.

Williams was released from the hospital and returned home to East Feliciana Parish.

On May 12, 2024, officers answered another call from the wife. She told officers that Williams allegedly had an AR-15 and was acting irrationally again.

At that time, officers responded to the Oakwood Ln address. Around 7:40 p.m., Williams is accused of pointing the rifle at the responding deputy, at which point an East Feliciana sheriff’s deputy fired his weapon.

Williams was airlifted to a hospital and his current condition is unknown at this time. The deputy was not injured.

East Feliciana Sheriff Jeff Travis asked state police to take over the investigation because one of their deputies was involved.
