Seattle summer camp counselor allegedly attacked by dog ​​owner – KIRO 7 News Seattle

SEATTLE – A summer camp counselor is recovering after he was allegedly attacked by a dog owner last Friday afternoon in West Seattle.

“We were playing out here on the playground for a while and I made a casual comment, ‘Ohh, there’s a dog off leash’ – because it seems to me that there are always dogs off leash in this park,” said Ci Hossner, a counselor at Hazelwood Preschool.

Hossner said she and a colleague were babysitting nearly a dozen children in a fenced-in area when a dog owner and his large husky came running down the nearby trail in Fauntleroy Park.

“The kids reached out to pet the dog, and I think the dog just got too excited and came closer to the gate. I think he just pushed the gate open and the dog came running. My co-worker caught the guy and said, ‘Hey, keep your dog on a leash, please,'” Hossner said.

Hossner said that it was not the dog but the owner who attacked. She pushed her 21-year-old colleague with so much force that he was thrown backwards and hit his head against a slide.

“When he came by to pick up the dog from me, he made comments about how we should keep our gate closed and that we were a bunch of punks,” Hossner said.

“It was just so shocking that he did that in front of children, and the children were definitely shaken by it and it was really quite scary,” she said.

While the caregivers focused on calming the children, the man and his dog continued to the parking lot – and was then caught on surveillance cameras driving away in a silver Honda minivan with no license plates.

“Unfortunately, we were unable to see his face on camera. Following this incident, we will be installing new cameras on the playground,” said Board President Danielle Robbins.

No child was injured and the school reported the incident to the police.

Hossner says the children are still talking about what happened.

“It’s still a very, very painful feeling for them, but I think it’s a very painful feeling for many of our employees as well,” Hossner said.
