A 41-year-old Mentor man was arrested on multiple misdemeanors and felonies after brandishing a handgun while driving over 100 mph, eventually damaging a vehicle near a Painesville Township residence, authorities said.

According to a press release from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, officers were dispatched to Route 2 in Painesville Township at approximately 10:42 a.m. on July 23 to respond to a traffic complaint. Complaints were received that a motorist traveling eastbound was throwing paper and allegedly waving a handgun while traveling over 100 miles per hour.

The vehicle in question was found by officers after they pulled into a residence on Hale Road. Inside that residence, the male driver intentionally rammed his vehicle into an unoccupied vehicle belonging to a woman with whom he had a previous relationship, the release states.

Officers encountered the man as he was exiting his vehicle with a loaded gun, shortly after he threatened to hurt the same woman. The man immediately complied with orders to drop the weapon and was arrested on several misdemeanors and felonies, including weapons offenses, attempted aggravated assault, vandalism, and driving under the influence.

He was taken to the Lake County Jail.
