“I was up there. When the bus tipped over, I jumped out of the bus. I was the first to get out, but because of the darkness I couldn’t see what had happened. I only heard my colleagues calling for help.”

“We were 20.”

According to local authorities, the victims belonged to a Peruvian folk music group that was on its way to Lima for a performance.

The Peruvian highway protection agency told local media that the bus was traveling on an unauthorized route in the La Oroya-Tarma section of central Peru when it plunged into a 200-meter-deep abyss.

The Peruvian National Police said they were investigating the cause of the accident.
