Woman arrested after children discovered in U-Haul truck

RUSK, Texas – A mother was arrested in Cherokee County after four of her children rode in the back of a U-Haul truck.

On Friday around 2:00 p.m., the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office received information about a U-Haul box truck that may have been transporting people in the cargo area of ​​the vehicle.

Officers made contact with a 42-year-old woman who was carrying three passengers, ages three, four and 17, in the passenger compartment of the truck, none of whom were wearing seat belts.

Officers then discovered other people in the cargo area of ​​the U-Haul. According to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, an 11-year-old, a 13-year-old, a 15-year-old and a 22-year-old disabled person were in the cargo area and were sweating profusely.

The woman, the mother of all the defendants, was arrested for driving without a license and faces other charges.

According to CCSO, Child Protective Services is working with them to file charges against the children.
