Oxford woman accused of abusing teenager says she was raped

Tracey Charlesworth is on trial at Oxford Crown Court on two counts of sexual contact as an adult with a boy and one count of penetrative sexual activity while over 18 with a boy.

The 60-year-old denies the crimes – the defense argues before the jury that the plaintiff, whose name cannot be mentioned for legal reasons, sexually abused her several times.

During the trial on Thursday (July 18), Judge Ian Pringle summarised the evidence the jury had heard, including Charlesworth’s defence.

She was heard telling the jury that she did not “voluntarily participate in any sexual activity” with the boy.

“He was persistent, and I didn’t want him to be persistent,” she said.

It was reported that earlier in the trial, the plaintiff had told the jury that he initiated the sexual contact, but that it was consensual.

Charlesworth described an alleged incident as follows: “I was sleeping and felt something between my legs. I thought he was having fun with me.

“I turned around and said, ‘What are you doing to me?’ and he left the room. We never talked about it and I thought it might just have been a mistake.”

Describing another alleged incident, she said: “He started pulling me towards him and put his hands on my bottom.

“I told him to stop, but he didn’t stop. He pulled me on top of him and pulled my pants down. He didn’t mind.

“I wanted him to stop. I wasn’t a willing participant. I didn’t tell anyone. I felt stupid and ashamed. I didn’t know if anyone would believe me.”

“I didn’t encourage him, I didn’t say anything.”

Charlesworth described another alleged incident in which the plaintiff exposed himself to her and attempted to force her to perform a sexual act on him.

“I just closed my eyes,” she said. “I just closed my eyes and hoped it would go away. Then he left. I tried to carry on as if nothing had happened.”

Charlesworth, of Blackbull Lane, Fencott, said she was arrested and questioned by police on January 28 this year.

She said her lawyer advised her not to comment.

She was reported to have subsequently gone to her doctor to discuss the alleged incidents, which were confirmed in the medical reports.

The trial will continue; the jury is expected to retire soon.
