Sexual harassment: Man arrested for sexually harassing a policewoman | News from Coimbatore

Erode: A 28-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for sexually harassing a woman constable at the Govt Erode Medical College and Hospital (GEMCH) on Tuesday. The accused was identified as S. Mohanraj of Perundurai, a security guard of a private agency. He was posted on duty at the GEMCH when he sexually harassed the woman constable. On July 15, a woman constable of Salem district police was assigned to protect a 15-year-old girl, who was a victim of sexual abuse and was undergoing treatment at the hospital. She was also accompanied by a constable. On Tuesday, the woman constable went to a nearby room to take a nap while the constable remained outside the women’s ward. Mohanraj, who was posted outside the women’s ward, entered the room and sexually harassed the woman constable. Perundurai police inspector Deivarani said, “He also threatened the policewoman when she tried to raise an alarm.” Following a complaint from the police officer, Perundurai police arrested the accused on Wednesday morning. He was remanded in judicial custody and lodged in Coimbatore Central Jail.
