DENVER (KDVR) – Due to a fatal accident involving a pedestrian and a motorist, southbound Interstate 225 is closed Tuesday morning.

At around 3:20 p.m., Denver police said officers were investigating a crash that left a pedestrian dead. Officers said the driver remained at the scene.

It is currently unclear why the pedestrian was near the highway, however officers are still in the early stages of the investigation and will release more information as it becomes available.

Southbound I-225 is closed at Yosemite Street near Cherry Creek Reservoir. A Colorado Department of Transportation traffic camera shows a major backup on I-225 at 5 a.m. Drivers are asked to find alternate routes as it is unclear when the interstate will reopen.

FOX31’s Jim Hooley is on the scene to learn more about the accident.
