Woman found shot in downtown Phoenix hotel – identity confirmed

Authorities identified the woman who was found shot to death in a downtown Phoenix hotel room on the morning of July 5.

Desiree Serpas, 28, was found with a single gunshot wound, Phoenix police said.

According to Phoenix police, officers responded to a 911 call about a shooting at about 3:30 a.m. at the Renaissance Phoenix Downtown Hotel on the corner of First and Adams streets. A security guard found an injured woman in a hotel room, police said. Firefighters responded and pronounced the woman dead, police said.

According to police, the shooting is being investigated as a homicide.

A description of the suspect was not provided. Police did not immediately respond to questions about whether the victim was a guest or an employee of the hotel.

Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to call 480-WITNESS (948-6377) or (in Spanish) 480-TESTIGO (837-8446) and submit an anonymous tip. A reward has been offered for information leading to an arrest.
