Chinese regulator suspends securities lending to curb short selling

BEIJING, July 10 (Reuters) – China will suspend new securities business and terminate existing contracts to further curb short selling, the China Securities Regulatory Commission said in a statement on Wednesday.

The securities regulator will increase margin requirements for short selling from at least 80% to 100%, it said. Hedge funds will be subject to higher requirements. (Reporting by the newsroom in Beijing and Samuel Shen in Shanghai; editing by Andrew Heavens)
