Hanover, NH police investigating death of Dartmouth student found in Connecticut River

A Dartmouth student who was reported missing to police Sunday afternoon was found dead in the Connecticut River later that evening. Hanover police said 20-year-old Won Jang was reported missing since 9:30 p.m. Saturday. Hanover police and firefighters were the first to arrive at where Jang was last seen by witnesses: 8 Boathouse Road, near the docks on the Connecticut River. Members of the Hanover Fire Department’s dive team quickly began search and rescue efforts, with assistance from Lebanon and Harford fire departments. NH Fish & Game and NH Marine Patrol also arrived at the scene, officials said. After arriving on scene, Fish & Game took over primary leadership of search operations. At around 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening, Hanover police said a body, identified by officials as Jang, was found about 65 yards offshore. Jang’s relatives have been notified. The coroner’s office also arrived at the scene, but the cause of death had not been determined as of Sunday evening. Authorities said a preliminary investigation into Jang’s death, which officers opened early, found no foul play was suspected. According to the Hanover police, they received a report on Saturday at 9:30 p.m. that 20-year-old Won Jang was missing.

Hanover Police and Fire Department were the first to arrive at where Jang was last seen by witnesses: at 8 Boathouse Road, near the docks on the Connecticut River.

Members of the Hanover Fire Department’s dive team quickly began search and rescue, assisted by Lebanon and Harford fire departments. NH Fish & Game and NH Marine Patrol were also on scene, officials said.

When Fish & Game arrived on scene, it took primary control of the search operation.

On Sunday evening, around 7:30 p.m., according to Hanover police, a body was found about 65 meters off the coast, which officers identified as Jang.

Jang’s relatives have been notified.

The coroner also arrived at the scene of the accident, but the cause of death was still unclear on Sunday evening.

According to authorities, a preliminary investigation into Jang’s death, which officials said came too late, found that there is no suspicion of foul play.

Hanover Police Chief Charles Dennis said the department’s investigation is ongoing.
