School principal accused of raping a child is released on bail

The victim’s family and community protest for the arrest of the perpetrator

KARACHI:

A school principal is alleged to have raped a ten-year-old student in the Moach Goth district of Karachi, on the premises of the Mochko police station.

Local residents and the family of the Moach Goth girl staged a protest rally at Northern Bypass and Hub River Road to demand the arrest of the named suspects.

The protest caused traffic jams on both roads, with long queues of vehicles forming. Traffic police said traffic was backed up on the Northern Bypass and Hub River Road, while smaller vehicles were diverted from Dabba Mor to Pulitya 24 Market and through interior areas.

During the protest, the family and local residents demanded the arrest of the school principal Hanif. Mochko SHO Shahid Khan stated that the alleged rape incident took place on June 21 and the girl’s mother had filed a complaint against the school principal at Mochko police station on June 27.

The SHO said the headmaster was granted pre-arrest bail the following day. Police have conducted a medical examination of the girl and the situation will become clearer once the report is out. According to police officials, a case has been registered at Mochko police station after the victim’s father filed a complaint.

The first information report (FIR) filed by the mother states that the headmaster is teaching her three daughters. On June 21, the headmaster called and insisted that the daughters visit him to receive Eidi. Despite initial refusal, the mother finally sent her daughters due to his persistence.

When the victim returned home, she told her mother that the principal took her to another room and raped her. She also said that the principal threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the incident.

The girl was examined by a doctor and police are currently awaiting the results. Following the incident, the victim’s parents and residents protested on Hub River Road and demanded the arrest of the suspect. The protest caused significant traffic disruption in the area.

Last month, investigations led to the gruesome discovery of the bodies of a woman and her two children in a drain in Mauripur.

Police announced that autopsies revealed that the children had been raped by their abuser and their bodies had then been thrown into the drain.
