‘An incredible experience’: Savannah Bananas draw fans from across the country to Buffalo

BUFFALO NY (WIVB) – The Savannah Bananas are drawing fans from near and far to the Queen City as Banana Ball takes over Sahlen Field for two more games Saturday and Sunday.

“It’s so much fun,” said Melissa Kangas, who traveled with her family from Long Island to see the Bananas. “It’s amazing to watch, all the dance moves and the cool catches and throws. It’s just a lot of fun.”

Friday night’s game drew a sellout crowd, with thousands of people heading to Sahlen Stadium to watch the fastest game in Banana Ball history and enjoy all the sights and sounds. The stadium will be packed again this weekend.

“We went to Savannah last year, it was an incredible experience,” said Mark Kalish, who came from Philadelphia. “They had a blast. We had to do it again this year. We’re ready to drive, take a little trip. And it’s an absolutely incredible two hours of entertainment. An incredible experience.”

The Thériault family traveled 9 hours from Maine to attend the show.

“It’s really nice to be able to experience a different city,” said Amanda Theriault. “We went to Niagara Falls and we were able to enjoy it in a different park and see the firefighters.”

“It’s our first time in Buffalo, actually, so we’re enjoying it,” added Adam Theriault.

Before all the action at Sahlen Field for Game 2, Bananas first base dance coach Maceo Harrison entertained fans at the Dunkin’ on Michigan Avenue.

“Oh, that’s great,” Harrison said. “I don’t change for anyone, I’m still 100 percent the same.”

“We’re very excited,” Kalish said. “We’re here to see some players and have some breakfast. We’re going to have a fun day.”

Between the dancing, the music and the ball game, there is something “appealing” for every fan.

“Day 2, more laughs, more tricks, more splits and more twerks from me,” Harrison said.
