Suraj Revanna’s pre-trial detention extended until July 18

A court in Bengaluru has placed JD(S MLC) Suraj Revannawho is accused of sexually abusing two men, is in custody until July 18 following a hearing on Wednesday.

Suraj Revanna was arrested on June 23 for allegedly sexually harassing a male party worker after a complaint was filed. On June 26, a second case of sexual assault A case was also registered against him at Holenarasipura Rural Police Station in Hassan district based on a complaint lodged by one of his close associates. Significantly, the complainant is also an accused in the first sexual assault case filed against Suraj Revanna by a 27-year-old party worker.

On Monday, the 42nd Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Court extended the police custody of Suraj Revanna for another two days.

Suraj is the elder brother of former Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, who also faces allegations of sexual assault and was arrested on May 31. The two are sons of JD(S) MP HD Revanna, who is a Union minister and elder brother of former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy. A doctor by profession, Suraj Revanna is the seventh member of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda’s family to be elected to office in Karnataka. He contested for the Legislative Council from Hassan Local Authorities constituency and won the election in January 2022. After Suraj’s arrest, both HD Revanna’s sons are now behind bars, while Revanna himself and his wife Bhavani Revanna are out on bail in an alleged kidnapping case.
