Silver Alert issued for missing 35-year-old man from Centereach

Suffolk Police issued a Silver Alert this evening for a missing Centereach man suffering from mental health issues.

James Shurman, 35, was last seen leaving his home at 54 Park Street around 4 a.m. Friday, June 28, police said. He was traveling in a gray 2015 Chrysler 200 with New York license plate KRP 8819. Family members reported him missing to police at 10:55 a.m. today.

Shurman is considered suicidal and has stopped taking his medication. Police said he is white, 5’8″ tall and weighs about 220 pounds. He also has red hair and hazel eyes.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on Shurman’s whereabouts to call 911 or Sixth Division Detectives at 631.854.8652.

Silver Alert is a program implemented in Suffolk County that allows local law enforcement agencies to release information about missing persons with special needs to the media.
