Air Quality Alert Now in Effect for the San Joaquin Valley | YourCentralValley.com

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Smoke from ongoing wildfires in eastern Fresno County is now significantly affecting the San Joaquin Valley, aviation experts say.

Over the weekend, there is a chance that winds will shift to the west and move smoke toward Fresno, significantly impacting air quality.

As a result, the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District at the National Weather Service has issued an air quality alert.

The county recommends that residents avoid the smoke by staying indoors and using air filters. Clean Air Centers are also available to residents. Locations throughout the San Joaquin Valley can be found here.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, wildfire smoke can trigger asthma attacks, worsen chronic bronchitis and increase the risk of heart attack and stroke.

People with existing respiratory diseases are particularly vulnerable to the harmful health effects of this form of pollution, say aviation authorities officials.
