Hunt for a monkey that attacked 10 people, including a baby, in Japan

In Japan, police are searching for a monkey that attacked 10 people, including a baby and two four-year-old girls.

In the worst attack in two weeks, the monkey severely scratched a baby after it entered the family home.

The girl’s mother told local media: “I heard my child crying, turned around and saw that the monkey had grabbed her legs while she was playing on the floor.

“It looked like it was trying to drag her outside.”

According to Kyodo News Agency, the primate also scratched a four-year-old last weekend after opening the screen door of a first-floor apartment.

In another attack, the monkey entered a kindergarten classroom and attacked a four-year-old girl.

Traps were set to catch the primate, which is said to be between 40 and 50 cm tall.

Fearing another attack, people have been urged to close their windows to ensure the monkey cannot enter their homes.

Warning flyers were distributed in the area to warn people about the monkey.

The first attack occurred on July 8 in Ogori County, Yamaguchi Prefecture, in the southwest of the country.
