Red Bull Flugtag event returns to Tampa Convention Center

TAMPA — The popular Flugtag event, previously held in Tampa in 2008 and 2011, is returning to the area.

The Red Bull Flugtag will take place on Saturday, November 9 in front of the Tampa Convention Center. The announcement was made at the center on Monday.

Previous events have drawn about 100,000 people to the convention center basin to watch teams soar through the air in their hand-built flying machines.

“We are extremely excited to welcome Red Bull Flugtag back to Tampa, along with the 100,000 spectators it will bring,” said Mayor Jane Castor. “We can’t wait to see these daring pilots take flight, or perhaps more accurately, dive, right in front of the Tampa Convention Center.” It will be an epic day and, more importantly, an economic boost of over $3 million for our city. It’s a win-win.

The event is free to attend, with some of the best viewing areas available along the Tampa Riverwalk.
