Janata Dal (Secular) leader Suraj Revanna, brother of suspended JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna, was arrested on Sunday on a sexual assault complaint filed by a party worker. Suraj Revanna’s arrest came a day after he was booked under various sections of the IPC, including “unnatural offences”, for allegedly sexually assaulting a 27-year-old man a few days ago.

The complainant alleged that Suraj Revanna sexually assaulted him on June 16 at his farm in Ghannikada. The JD(S) leader has categorically denied these allegations. Instead, he accused the complainant of trying to extort money from him by threatening to file a false sexual assault complaint against him.

According to the complaint filed by Suraj’s assistant HL Shivakumar, the JD(S) worker initially demanded ₹5 crore and later reduced the demand to ₹2 crore. Suraj’s assistant claimed that the JD(S) worker had met Suraj six months ago and then again in June to find a job. Suraj said that it was not possible for him to help the man get a job at present, “but it could be considered in the future,” to which the man demanded ₹5 Crores.

“I strongly deny these allegations. They are part of a political conspiracy. An FIR has also been filed against the complainant. The truth must come out. I trust in the law of the land,” said Suraj Revanna.

Who is Suraj Revanna?

Suraj Revanna, a member of the Karnataka Legislative Council (MLC), is the eldest son of Holenarasipur MP HD Revanna and the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda. The entire Revanna family is embroiled in controversy after pen drives containing videos of Prajwal Revanna with various women surfaced in Hassan.

Prajwal Revanna was arrested by the SIT on May 31 at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru after he returned from Germany, where he was hidden following charges of rape and intimidation.

HD Revanna and his wife Bhavani are out on bail on charges of kidnapping and holding captive an alleged victim of sexual assault by their son Prajwal.
