Man arrested after officer-involved shooting in Naugatuck: Police

The man was shot after he allegedly approached officers with a knife, police said. He was released from the hospital on Wednesday.

NAUGATUCK, Conn. – A man who was shot by Naugatuck police officers after he allegedly approached them with a knife was arrested Wednesday, according to police.

Kyle O’Creene, 24, was taken into custody May 7 after being released from the hospital and is charged with attempted assault on a police officer, carrying a dangerous weapon, obstructing an officer and recklessly endangering police, said.

According to police information and a report from the Office of the Inspector General, officers were called to Baummer’s Pond Park on April 25 after receiving a 911 call that a man, later identified as O’Creene, was holding a knife and “behaved erratically.”

The report states that officers arrived and found O’Creene near a picnic table where he began walking toward them with the knife and ignored commands to put the knife down. Police said they eventually used their Taser to subdue him, but were unsuccessful.

According to police, Officer Crystal Hudson and Officer Joseph Palhete then fired their weapons and struck O’Creene. Officers on scene “immediately” provided him with medical treatment for his injuries and took him to the hospital, police said.

The Office of the Inspector General is leading the investigation into the shooting.
