SI arrested and released for raping police officer at gunpoint | Hyderabad News

HYDERABAD: The Station House Officer (SHO) of Kaleswaram police station in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district has been arrested on suspicion of raping a woman superintendent of police working at the same police station at gunpoint.

SI PVS Bhavani Sen was dismissed from service without any investigation, said an official press release from IG Multi Zone AV Ranganath.

The action came following a complaint from the 42-year-old police superintendent. The woman said she was raped at gunpoint by the SI last week after he called her to his official residence on the pretext of illness. She alleged that he raped her again at her house on Sunday.

Kaleshwaram SI arrested for raping police officer
Sub-Inspector PVS Bhavani Sen, the station-in-charge of Kaleswaram police station in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, has been arrested on suspicion of raping a woman constable working at the same police station at gunpoint.

Proceedings were initiated against Sen after the 42-year-old police chief filed a complaint with the police.

The woman said Sen called her last week and asked her to come to his official residence near the police station to help him as he was ill. Police found prima facie that he threatened her with his service weapon and raped her when she went there. On Sunday, he again barged into her house and raped her. He threatened her of dire consequences if she spoke to anyone about the incident and left the house.

The policewoman mustered up all her courage and reported the incident to the higher-ups. A complaint was lodged at the same police station where both of them work. A case was registered against him on Wednesday. Meanwhile, AV Ranganath, IG, Multi Zone I, issued an order on Wednesday to remove Sen from service without any inquiry.

Bhavani Sen has also been accused of sexually harassing women in the past. In July 2022, a case was filed against him at Rebbena police station in Kumuram Bheem Asifabad district for allegedly sexually harassing a woman. Abusing his official position, he is also said to have sexually abused three other policewomen in the past.

AV Ranganath said in an official press release, “His repeated acts of sexual violence are damaging the image and honour of the police department. Therefore, it is not fair to initiate an investigation against him at this stage and so he is dismissed from service without any investigation under Article 311 of the Constitution.”
