3 people arrested for child abuse of 11-month-old baby, say MPs

Chesnee police requested assistance from the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit at Spartanburg Regional Hospital on Sunday on suspicion of child abuse. Lt. Kevin Bobo of the SCSO said when they arrived, an 11-month-old boy was being prepared to be taken to Prisma Heath System Pediatrics in Greenville. Bobo said the infant had multiple injuries and tested positive for fentanyl, cocaine and THC. Upon investigation, it was determined the abuse and injuries sustained occurred at a home on North Alabama Avenue and a home on Parris Bridge Road, both in Chesnee, South Carolina. Bobo said the child was taken into emergency protective custody of the SC Department of Social Services. Chesnee police charged the mother, Hannah Michaela Cason, 27, and Dalton Lane Miller, 22, with child neglect. Chesnee police also charged the maternal grandmother, Kathryn Harbaugh Cason, 64, with felony failure to appear for failing to report the child abuse and initially misleading investigators. Police said all three were arrested Monday. Hannah Cason and Miller remained in custody, but Kathryn Cason was released on bail, according to Bobo. Bobo said investigators have issued arrest warrants for Hannah Cason and Miller on charges of child abuse with serious bodily injury. A bail hearing will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m.
