Fatal Friar Point fire: 7-year-old boy dead, grandmother hospitalized after deadly Houston house fire, fire officials say

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A 7-year-old boy was pronounced dead and his grandmother is hospitalized after a house fire in south Houston Saturday afternoon.

Houston firefighters were dispatched to the 3000 block of Friar Point at 3:30 p.m.

On site, firefighters reported finding the front of the house completely engulfed in flames and hearing the mother screaming for help.

Authorities said a total of six people were in the home, a mother, grandmother and four children ages 4 to 9.

The 7-year-old boy is believed to have died after succumbing to a fire.

The grandmother suffered second-degree burns to her arms and legs, but is expected to be OK, authorities said.

The rest of the family is said to be unhurt but shaken by the incident.

Firefighters are still investigating the cause of the fire and how the boy died.

One firefighter partially fell through the roof, but is OK, officials said.
