Details: The “A Lot” rapper returns to Atlanta for this reunion concert that promotes his latest album American dream. Guests include JID, Nardo Wick and 21 Lil Harold.

Celebrating the Seventeenth Anniversary of the Atlanta History Center

Details: Appreciate the rich cultural and historical significance of Juneteenth with all-day programming at the Atlanta History Center. Filled with folktales, theatrical performances, and tours of important monuments to Black history, this free event will keep you busy with several events happening every hour. Highlights include a make-and-go quilting class, yoga session, live music, and create your own barbecue dry-roasting workshop. The only ticketed event is the “Fruits of Our Labor” tasting, hosted by James Beard Award-nominated food writer Nicole A. Taylor. Be sure to pre-register to speed up check-in and bring enough lawn chairs and picnic blankets to enjoy this outdoor event..

Abnormal market and unusual bazaar
When: From Saturday June 15 to Sunday June 16

Details: This new free arts festival, hosted by the Atlanta Foundation for Public Spaces, will feature unusual creations from local painters, photographers, jewelry artists and more. End the day by grabbing a meal at one of the food trucks and exploring Piedmont Park.

The Streets of Atlanta Alive
When: Sunday June 16

Details: Run, skate, play and bike around the city with Atlanta Streets Alive, a monthly program that opens Atlanta’s streets as a community park. Streets Alive takes over Peachtree Street this time, running from 15th Street in Midtown to Mitchell Street in Downtown near metro Atlanta. With no cars to worry about, the event is a great way to connect with the community, get some exercise, and explore local businesses you may not have noticed while driving through. With relay races and kids’ events, be sure to bring the whole family, including your pets.

Freed laughter: a celebration of Juneteenth improvisation
When: Wednesday June 19
Or: Improvisational theater from around the world
Cost: $5
Details: Support a local nonprofit and have fun with Whole World Improv Theater’s Juneteenth show, featuring comic and improv artists of African descent around Atlanta. The artists will tell their stories in a completely original way and the two-set show is aimed at an adult audience.

Sports corner: Atlanta home games

  • Atlanta United takes on the Houston Dynamo at Mercedes-Benz on June 15, with a special Father’s Day ticket pack available. Info here
