Man charged after rape and sexual assault on beach

A man has been charged with rape and sexual assault after two teenagers were attacked on Bournemouth beach.

A young girl was raped by a man on the beach near the Oceanarium at 19:30 (CEST) on Sunday.

Dorset Police said that around the same time, a second teenage girl reported a sexual assault on the beach, also near the aquarium.

A 24-year-old man from the city was charged with two counts of rape and sexual assault.

He is due to appear before Poole District Court on Thursday.

Det Insp Mark Fursman of Dorset Police urged anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area on Sunday evening to come forward.

Police said the victims were being cared for by specially trained officers and that police presence in the area was being increased.
