Pro-Palestinian protesters carrying fake corpses clash with police on UCLA campus

A large group of pro-Palestinian protesters marched across the UCLA campus on Monday with flags and fake corpses.

SkyCal was visible in the sky as hundreds of people walked through the Westwood campus around 3 p.m.

Some of the protesters carried what appeared to be corpses on makeshift stretchers, while others carried what appeared to be dismembered bodies before gathering around the fountain in Dickson Plaza in front of Royce Hall.

Several of the masked protesters were seen pouring what appeared to be red food coloring into the water. Others poured red paint onto the Janss Steps leading to the fountain. Eventually, the red-colored water was poured down the steps.

As the protest continued, some of them could be seen setting up tents and portable sunshades while the entrances to the fountain area were blocked off.


Protesters clash with police on UCLA campus

According to The Daily Bruin, a student-run newspaper at UCLA, police declared the gathering an unlawful assembly, and around 6 p.m., Los Angeles Police Department officers issued a tactical alert about the protest.

After spending about two hours near the fountain, the group was forced to move to the base of the Janss Steps when police told them they had 10 minutes to disperse. They gathered at the base of the steps before moving to another part of campus near the Moore Hall dining area, where they used tables, chairs and umbrellas from the dining area to block every entrance.

Again, the group dispersed from the area before gathering in the courtyard behind Dodd Hal near Lu Valle Commons.

At around 8 p.m., clashes broke out between the two sides when a large group of officers harassed protesters on a sidewalk between tall hedges. Several people could be seen being detained by officers, who also took away the wooden signs and props the protesters were carrying with SkyCal signs above them.
