Man arrested in connection with fatal shooting at apartment complex near Leopard

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – A 47-year-old man is in police custody following a fatal shooting Friday night in the 11900 block of Leopard Street.

According to Corpus Christi police, officers received a call around 8:01 p.m. on June 7 regarding a shooting with injuries.

When police arrived at the scene, they found a 26-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. Officials said he later died of his injuries at a local hospital.

“The investigation by officers and detectives revealed that a verbal disturbance occurred between the victim and 47-year-old Edward Smith and that at some point Smith pulled out a handgun and shot the victim,” said CCPD Senior Officer Jennifer Collier.

47-year-old Edward Smith was arrested for murder and taken to the City eDtention Center for detention.

Officials did not provide any further information about the 26-year-old victim.
