FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) – A man was arrested Monday morning following a standoff in Canterbury Green.

Tavon Underwood, 26, was charged with false imprisonment, a Level 6 felony.

Shortly before 5 a.m., a woman texted 911 reporting a domestic dispute between her and a male suspect. Dispatchers and officers attempted to determine the exact location of the woman, who requested police assistance at an apartment in the 2800 block of Northgate Boulevard.

The woman was able to leave the apartment safely with a child. Officers determined that Underwood had held the woman in the apartment against her will.

Officers were able to confirm that Underwood was still in the apartment with other adults. Underwood also had an arrest warrant for a crime unrelated to the incident. Officers were able to remove the other adults from the apartment without incident, but Underwood remained in the apartment.

When Underwood refused to comply with orders to leave the residence, the Fort Wayne Police Emergency Response Team, Crisis Response Team and Air Support Unit rushed to the scene. Shortly after the additional support units arrived, Underwood was taken into custody without incident shortly after 7:30 a.m.
