AKRON, Ohio (WJW) – Akron police are investigating an overnight shooting that left at least 27 people shot and one dead.

Several 911 callers reported gunshots shortly after midnight in the area of ​​Kelly and 8th Avenue, according to a police news release Sunday.


Shortly afterward, area hospitals reported numerous patients coming to the emergency room with gunshot wounds. As of Sunday morning, Akron police counted at least 27 victims, including a 27-year-old man who died. His identity has not been released.

According to the press release, officers seized a firearm and several dozen cartridge cases at the crime scene. The investigation is still in its early stages. The police did not release any further information about the victims or suspects.

No arrests were made.
