Man found floating in Coney Island Channel and pronounced dead

A man found floating in the Coney Island Channel was pronounced dead this morning, the NYPD said.

Crews arrived near Boardwalk West and Stillwell Avenue shortly before 7 a.m.

They said the man was probably in his 30s. Emergency services pronounced him dead at the scene. Some residents say the situation, while sad, is not all that surprising.

“I mean, if he was swimming, the tide can take you away, that can definitely happen,” Bay Ridge resident Danny Paris said.

Police are now investigating whether this incident is related to the search for a man who was seen jumping off a pier in Coney Island late last month.

Details about the man’s identity and his death have not yet been released.

The coroner told News 12 the inquest on the body will take place on Wednesday.
