CDCR: Solano County escaped inmate caught and arrested in Monterey – KION546

MONTEREY, Calif. (KION-TV) – A Solano County inmate who has been on the run since May 13 was arrested Saturday afternoon in Monterey, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

According to CDCR, 36-year-old James Xiong was detained and arrested by Monterey police. Officers had to use physical force and stapled him to arrest Xiong.

Investigators said Xiong escaped from the Delta Conservation Camp in Solano County on May 13.

Our CBS partner in San Francisco said Xiong did not show up for work that morning, prompting a search of the premises.

In 2015, Xiong was sentenced to a six-year prison term for aggravated robbery and a concurrent three-year prison term for auto theft with a previous felony conviction.

CDCR said Xiong was on parole in 2019.

In 2022, Xiong was sentenced to six years in prison after being convicted of grand larceny in Nevada County, according to a CDCR spokesperson.

Xiong was taken to the Soledad Correctional Facility and is now facing possible escape charges from the Solano County District Attorney’s Office.
