Death of a 9-day-old infant, homicide, 2 counts

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Two people have been charged with second-degree murder and child abuse in connection with the death of a 9-day-old infant Saturday, which has been ruled a homicide, Norfolk police said.

Hilary D. Johnson, 23, and Zibreyea S. Parker, 21, were taken into custody and each initially charged with child abuse. After the coroner’s ruling each Monday, both were also charged with second-degree murder. They are currently being held without bail in the Norfolk City Jail.

At approximately 1:15 p.m. on Saturday, police were called to the King’s Daughters Children’s Hospital for a report of a child protection call. When officers arrived at the hospital, they learned that an unresponsive infant had been brought there and was showing signs of abuse.

Police said the infant was later pronounced dead by medical staff.
