A criminal investigation has been launched into Matthew Perry’s death

LOS ANGELES – A criminal investigation has been launched into the death of “Friends” star Matthew Perry.

It’s been six months since Perry was found lifeless in the hot tub of his Los Angeles home. Law enforcement determined that ketamine contributed to Perry’s death but is now investigating how he ingested the drug.

According to the Associated Press, Captain Scot Williams of the Los Angeles Police Department said they are working with the Drug Enforcement Agency to find out why Perry had so much ketamine in his system when he died.

Perry’s relatives told police he was undergoing ketamine infusion therapy for his depression and anxiety. The coroner said his last treatment over a week ago did not explain the concentration of the drug in his blood.

The AP reported that ketamine is typically dissolved by the body within a few hours. The AP also reported that the amount of ketamine in Perry’s blood was equivalent to the amount used in general anesthesia for surgical purposes. According to the AP, drowning and “other medical factors” were listed as causes of death, but the autopsy listed ketamine as the primary cause of death for Perry.
