Marion city councilor charged with rape of girl under 15

MARION, Ohio – A Marion city councilman is facing charges after he is accused of raping a girl under the age of 15, the Marion County District Attorney’s Office announced.

In a video statement released Tuesday, Marion County Prosecutor Ray Grogan said he gave permission for law enforcement officers to arrest Ayers Ratliff Monday night.

A complaint filed in Marion County Municipal Court alleges Ratliff raped a girl under the age of 15. Grogan did not say when the incident occurred, but mentioned that the victim immediately reported it to someone and Marion police were notified.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation assisted police with a search warrant at Ratliff’s home. Grogan said officers found physical and electronic evidence. Ratliff was subsequently arrested and charged with rape.

The Marion Police Department told 10TV that Ratliff is currently being held at the Multi-County Correctional Center.

Grogan said his office will seek a high bond against Ratliff during his arraignment.

On the Marion City Council website, Ratliff is listed as a councilor for District 2.
