“Due to the possibility of terrorist attacks, demonstrations, or violent actions against U.S. citizens and interests, the State Department advises U.S. citizens abroad to exercise increased caution,” the State Department warning said.

“The State Department is aware of the increased potential for violence inspired by foreign terrorist organizations against LGBTQI+ people and events and advises U.S. citizens abroad to exercise increased caution.”

It warns Americans abroad to remain vigilant in places frequented by tourists, “including Pride celebrations and venues frequented by LGBTQI+ people.”

The warning was reportedly in response to threats from ISIS militants against Pride events scheduled to take place in parts of Europe, CBS News reported, citing multiple sources familiar with the situation.

Pride month takes place in June.

American diplomats are also being instructed to email the travel warning to all Americans who have registered with the State Department abroad, POLITICO reported, citing official sources.

The news comes after US Secretary of State Antony Blinken marked the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia on Friday.

“The United States reaffirms its commitment to promoting the safety and dignity of LGBTQI+ people. This is not just a moral imperative, but a key component to advancing our national interests.” Blinken said on X.
