Morristown man charged with aggravated assault after early morning incident

A Morristown man has been charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats, unlawful possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and possession of a firearm, according to Sheriff James Gannon.

The Morris County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division responded to an incident at 2:25 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14th

An injured man reported being threatened and attacked after an argument on Patriots Path in Morristown, off Martin Luther King Avenue.

The victim provided a description of the suspect and told officers that the suspect was still in the area.

Sheriff’s Sergeant Kyle Koster, Sheriff’s Officer Brian Weber and Morristown Police located the suspect, identified as Ricardo Martinez-Bonilla, who was sleeping on the trail.

Martinez-Bonilla was taken into custody and booked into the Morris County Correctional Facility on a complaint warrant.

The victim was taken to Morristown Medical Center for his injuries.

Sheriff Gannon praised the patrol officers’ quick actions and careful police work, stating, “Their efforts have averted future potential victims.”
