Media: Drones attacked the Russian Volgograd oil refinery, the Kaluga oil depot and the Lipetsk steel plant

Last night a local Russian Telegram channel reported on “loud noise, similar to an explosion and then a fire in the factory” at 2:25 a.m. and another around 2:30 p.m. According to the station, another explosion occurred around 3:00 p.m.

The governor of Russia’s Volgograd Oblast, Andrei Bocharov, claimed that Russian air defenses allegedly repelled a drone attack overnight on May 12, leading to a fire at the Volgograd oil refinery by an alleged crashed drone and causing no casualties.

Attacks on Russian fuel facilities

Recently, Ukraine has intensified its campaign against Russian fuel depots, which are crucial for military logistics in the occupied territories and Russia. In addition, since the beginning of this year, Ukraine has expanded its targeting of Russian oil processing facilities.

On May 8, a Ukrainian attack destroyed at least three fuel tanks in occupied Luhansk. On May 9, Ukrainian forces attacked an oil depot in Russia’s Krasnodar region, not far from occupied Crimea. On May 10, drones targeted an oil refinery in Russia’s Kaluga Oblast. On May 11, a rocket targeted an important oil depot in occupied Rovenky, Luhansk Oblast.
