Authorities say pedestrian killed in south Oxnard

A 67-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed by a pickup truck in a marked crosswalk in South Oxnard Friday morning.

According to Oxnard police, the pedestrian, identified as Oxnard resident Josefina Romo, was crossing Oxnard Boulevard at Rose Avenue shortly before 5:25 a.m.

A 58-year-old Oxnard man was driving a 2002 Ford F-150 pickup southbound on Oxnard Boulevard when he struck them, authorities said.

Romo was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, who was uninjured, remained at the scene and cooperated with police.

Investigators do not believe speed, alcohol or drugs contributed to the collision.

Southbound traffic in the area was closed for hours while the investigation took place. All lanes were reopened about 10:45 a.m., Sgt. John McBride said.

The investigation is ongoing.
