Harvard and MIT threaten to suspend student protesters – NECN

Disunity reigns on a college campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts, as student protesters step up their demonstrations.

School officials at Harvard University and MIT are threatening to take action against those involved in the protests.

On the MIT campus, a camp was set up on Kresge Lawn, just off Massachusetts Avenue. A clear difference from Monday, when the camp was evacuated after the school principals handed the demonstrators an evacuation notice.

Protesters jumped up and over erected barricades and stormed back into the area to retake their camp.

Pro-Palestinian protesters marched to the interim president’s home at Harvard University on Monday evening.

On Massachusetts Avenue, dozens of high school students took to the streets to support pro-Palestinian protesters at MIT, closing the busy street for several hours.

This was the result of negotiations between a student-led Palestinian group at MIT and the school, with those in charge saying at the end: “It quickly became clear that their primary demand had not changed and that we would not be able to to reach an agreement.”

Meanwhile, protests continued on Harvard’s campus and a group marched to the home of the school’s interim president, but he was not there.

And just like at MIT, protesters there made it clear that they will not dismantle the camps until their school meets their demands.
