Murder investigation underway in Huron after school closed | National News

{KXLG – Huron, SD} The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and the Huron Police Department are currently conducting a homicide investigation. According to Attorney General Marty Jackley, one person has been arrested and one person has died in connection with the case.

The incident occurred in the southwest part of the city near 10th Street and Minnesota Avenue SW. Huron Police have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat associated with this incident.

A significant police presence was observed in the area early Thursday morning, including 19 patrol cars and the SWAT team. A man was arrested after a police chase. However, it is currently unclear whether this arrest is related to the murder investigation.

Keloland reported that residents of the Colonial Apartments near the scene of the accident were asked to voluntarily evacuate earlier in the day. They were allowed to return home around 3:30 p.m

In response to the situation, the Huron School District was placed on lockdown at the request of police. While outdoor activities were halted, indoor school activities continued as usual. The closure was lifted later in the afternoon.
