1 dead in house fire in Morro Bay

One person died in a fire at a house in Morro Bay early Saturday morning.

At around 12:20 a.m., Morro Bay police and fire departments responded to a fire at a residential building in the 500 block of Kings Avenue, police said in a news release.

The officers who were the first to arrive on the scene were unable to enter the house due to heavy smoke and flames, police said in a Facebook post.

Minutes later, firefighters arrived and began containing the fire.

One death has been confirmed, but the victim’s identity is being kept secret until next of kin are notified, the fire department said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
