Texas man dies in bee attack

A 75-year-old man died after disturbing a nest of Africanized honey bees on his ranch.

BEDIAS, Texas – After a man was killed in a bee attack, authorities are warning Texans to be extra careful when trimming trees.

It happened Tuesday in Bedias, which is in Grimes County west of Huntsville.

The 75-year-old man was cutting down trees on his ranch when he unknowingly disturbed a nest of Africanized honey bees, which are considered to be very aggressive.

The man was stabbed over 60 times in the face and neck.

The Grimes County Justice of the Peace said beehives are common and people should be aware of them.

“We understand the seriousness of what happened and the fact that it could happen to anyone, and we don’t think about things like that,” said Chris Acord.

Experts advise covering your head and face while looking for a safe place to escape from the bees in case of an attack. If you are allergic to bee stings, you should call 911 and always carry an EpiPen with you.
