LSP lieutenant arrested off-duty after accident while under the influence of alcohol

Shortly after 11:30 p.m. on July 18, 2024, the Louisiana State Police were notified that the Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD) was investigating a motor vehicle crash on Interstate 10 near Perkins Road involving an off-duty Louisiana State Police lieutenant. The driver of the crashed vehicle was determined to be 51-year-old Prentiss “Trey” Bellue, who exhibited signs of impairment during the investigation.

As a result of the accident investigation, BRPD officers arrested Bellue and booked him accordingly for Driving under the influence of alcohol 1st offense. Bellue, who was off-duty and in his personal vehicle at the time of the accident, is currently assigned to the Louisiana State Police Crisis Response Division. Bellue has been employed by the Louisiana State Police since 1998.

Bellue has been placed on administrative leave. All property belonging to law enforcement authorities will be seized pending the conclusion of the criminal and administrative investigations.
