Jajpur (Odisha), July 21 (PTI) – A POCSO court in Jajpur district of Odisha has sentenced four persons to 20 years imprisonment each for raping a girl three years ago.

Jajpur Court POCSO Judge Abhijit Palei also imposed a total fine of Rs 400,000 on the convicts.

The convicts will have to serve an additional jail term of six months if they fail to pay the fine amount, the POCSO court ordered on Saturday.

According to prosecutors, the incident occurred when the then 17-year-old survivor was riding home on his motorcycle with a male friend on the evening of March 7, 2021.

They were crossing a forest area near Kalaring Hat in the Kaliapani area when the four convicts intercepted them, overpowered their male friend and raped them one by one.

Based on a complaint later filed by the survivor, a case was registered and the four accused were arrested and registered.
