Machang MP Wan Fayhsal suspended from Dewan Rakyat for six months

KUALA LUMPUR, July 18 – Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal has been suspended from the Dewan Rakyat for six months effective today.

This came after Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, Minister for Law and Institutional Reforms in the Prime Minister’s Department, filed a motion against Wan Ahmad Fayhsal for quoting a poison letter mentioning an alleged mastermind behind the privatisation of Malaysia Airport Holdings Bhd (MAHB).

The motion was adopted by a majority of MPs in a split vote, with 110 in favour, 63 against, three not voting and 46 absent.

Before the morning session of the Dewan Rakyat was adjourned, Wan Ahmad Fayhsal was heard saying that he would not give up on the issue before his microphone was cut off.

The agenda stated that Wan Ahmad Fayhsal’s reference to the letter had damaging implications not only for the individual or alleged mastermind, but also for government officials who could be unfairly harmed by the baseless allegations.

Wan Fayshal reportedly referred to the poison letter during the debate on the Malaysian Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) annual report for 2021 and 2022 in the Dewan Rakyat earlier this month.

He had also named a senior employee of the Employee Provident Fund (EPF) who was allegedly involved in the privatisation of MAHB.
