12News meteorologists have issued a severe weather warning for Friday, July 19-20 and Monday, July 22-23, 2024.

BEAUMONT, Texas – 12News Meteorologists have issued a Severe Weather Warning for Friday and Saturday, July 19-20, and Monday and Tuesday, July 22-23, 2024.

According to Patrick Vaughn, chief meteorologist at 12News, a slowing front, plenty of moisture in the air and disturbances at altitude could bring heavy rains over the course of those four days.

On Friday and Saturday the probability of rain is 60% and 70% respectively, on Monday and Tuesday 70% and 60% respectively. On Sunday the probability of rain is only 40%.

According to Vaughn, five to seven centimeters of rain are expected, with up to fifteen centimeters possible.

Your outdoor activities and travel may be affected by the rain, so keep an umbrella ready and be prepared for possible flooding in the streets.

This is a developing story. We will update you with more information as we receive more confirmed information.

What is a severe weather warning?

The 12News Weather Impact Team works to keep you safe and alert you to impending weather hazards.

Our goal is to make sure you have the most accurate and up-to-date information about the weather and how it affects you. Weather alerts are just that: warnings as early as possible so you are armed with accurate information to protect yourself and your family.

A “weather warning” is simply a day, or even part of a day, when we expect weather that you need to prepare for or change your plans. This could be as simple as letting you know that you’ll need an umbrella for a few hours in the afternoon.

When will there be severe weather warnings?

You may receive a full day weather warning from our 12News Weather Impact Team, meaning severe weather is approaching and you need to take action. Or you may receive a weather warning from us for a few hours on a specific day, meaning you may need to adjust some plans during that time period.

In each case, we will provide you with details about when the threat occurs, how it will affect you and what you need to do.

  • WHEN: What day or time will this happen?
  • EFFECTS: What impact will it have on you?
  • NEED: What do you have to do?

Regardless of the warning, you are warned of any weather that may affect you and your family.
