Goleta teacher arrested for filming children with hidden camera

GOLETA, Calif. – Detectives with the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office have arrested Steven Schanpansky for using hidden cameras to film children at several locations, including the school where he worked.

The 54-year-old is a teacher at the Santa Barbara Charter School and was arrested on July 13 for invasion of privacy with a recording device, according to the SB Sheriff’s Office.

The SB Sheriff’s Office said the children were filmed in various locations, including areas where they were changing clothes, as detectives work with the school to provide social services and support.

Officials received reports of secret recording devices found in Schapansky’s possession the day before the arrest and are conducting follow-up investigations on the victims who were recorded, the SB Sheriff’s Office said.
