Donald Trump told his supporters on Truth Social on Sunday that he would not let the botched attempt on his life “force him to change” his plans for the next few days. But because his brush with death has reportedly left him feeling “spiritual,” the former president is changing the content of the speech he plans to give at the Republican National Convention this week. “The speech I was going to give on Thursday would have been a smash hit,” Trump told reporters as he boarded his flight to Milwaukee on Sunday. “Frankly, it’s going to be a very different speech now.” Now, he said, he plans to embrace the moment in all its historic significance. “It’s a chance to bring the country together,” Trump said. “I’ve been given that chance.” A day after the shooting that killed the gunman and a bystander and seriously injured two others, the convention was scheduled to go ahead as planned — albeit with an even stronger emphasis on “unity,” Trump said. The New York TimesA person close to Trump said The Washington Post The focus of the event will be on Trump’s “courage and resilience” and speakers are expected to “slow down, not rev up.”
