Mobile and internet services suspended until Ashura – Newspaper

QUETTA: The Balochistan government has decided to suspend mobile and internet services in the provincial capital and some other sensitive districts during the four-day Muharram festival.

“Mobile and internet services will remain suspended in Quetta from 7 to 10 Muharram,” said a statement from the Ministry of Interior. It added that these services will also remain suspended in Kachhi, Jhal Magsi, Jaffarabad and Usta Muhammad districts on 9 and 10 Muharram.

It was said that over 18,000 security personnel would be deployed in Quetta on Youm-i-Ashur, five platoons of the army’s rapid reaction force would be on standby and two helicopters would be available for aerial surveillance of the processions on the 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th of Muharram.

In seven districts of the province, pillion riding is prohibited under Section 144.
