Two dead in ‘apparent domestic incident’ after stabbing, fire in Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Two people are dead after an “apparent domestic incident” early Saturday morning that included a stabbing on Buffalo’s West Side, shortly after a house fire in South Buffalo, city officials said.

Police responded to a call about a stabbing around 3:30 a.m. in the 700 block of Ashland Avenue, where a 24-year-old woman was found stabbed and slashed, authorities said. The victim was transported by ambulance to ECMC where she was later pronounced dead.

Less than a half-hour later, Buffalo firefighters responded to a fire on the first floor of a Dash Street residence. A 24-year-old man who lived in the home was found dead in a rear bedroom on the first floor.

Authorities said the two victims knew each other and that an investigation into the connection between the stabbing and the arson was ongoing. Autopsies will be performed by medical examiners to determine the cause of death.

The fire caused $150,000 in damage to the South Buffalo residence and one firefighter was transported to ECMC for non-life threatening injuries sustained while fighting the blaze. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
